With a heavy heart, I write this tribute to a mentor and friend, Louis Mackenzie, who recently passed away. His sudden departure has left a void in the world of dentistry and in the hearts of those who knew him.

I had the privilege of being mentored by Louis during my time in the Advanced Minimum Intervention Restorative Dentistry MSc (AMIRD) program at King's College London.

His teachings and philosophy align closely with the principles of this course, emphasising the importance of prevention, minimally invasive procedures, and patients' long-term well-being. His passion for dentistry and life-long learning was infectious and profoundly influenced me.

Some of my most cherished memories of Louis are his ever-present smile and incredibly sharp wit. His joyous spirit was infectious, and his presence always brought laughter and inspiration. He was uniquely able to lighten the atmosphere, making even the most challenging moments seem manageable.
His positivity and enthusiasm were uplifting and deeply inspiring, pushing me to strive for excellence in my work.

While I had already embarked on this path with the creation of Greener Dentistry Global, Louis joined me in helping raise awareness with his unique contributions. And it was on this shared journey towards greener dentistry that our friendship grew.

To Louis's family, I extend my deepest condolences.

Louis was a remarkable man whose impact reached far beyond his professional achievements. His spirit, passion, and dedication to dentistry will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy, no doubt, will continue to inspire and guide dentists towards more eco-friendly practices, and his influence will be felt for many years to come.

In memory of Louis, I pledge to continue promoting sustainable dentistry and honouring his legacy through my work. His clinical teachings will continue to guide me, and his memory will always inspire me.

As a tribute to Louis's commitment to sustainability, Greener Dentistry Global will plant 108 trees in his memory.
It is a poignant reminder of the profound loss we feel due to Louis's unexpected passing. Each of the 108 trees we plant will serve as a living tribute to Louis's lasting influence on dentistry and his dedication to environmental sustainability.
